Raglan Rebels compete at the Borough Football Tournament.

On Wednesday 16th November, the Raglan Rebels went to the Edmonton County Power League to compete in a borough football tournament.  It was great weather for football and the girls gave it their all but unfortunately fell just short in the group stage.

The first school the Rebels faced was Suffolks Primary School. Suffolks started strongly and were soon in on goal but some excellent defending and a top save prevented a goal.  Suffolks were denied again, moments later, by a perfectly timed tackle from Ava.  Unfortunately Suffolks’ pressure finally paid with only two minutes to go as they fire the ball into the back of net. 1-0 Suffolks.   Raglan did not let their heads dropped and with only seconds to go created an opportunity for Ava to place the ball into the bottom corner. 1-1!  An excellent come back from the Rebels against a very strong Suffolks side.

Chase Side were Raglan’s next opponents. Both teams battled bravely in an evenly contested game that finished 0-0.   Both defences held strong with some excellent tackling that prevented either team keeping possession.

The third team Raglan came up against was Capel Manor.   Again, another match where both teams were defending well.  It was a fast paced game with lots of free kicks.  Both sides had an equal share  of the ball.  Manor soon had a corner kick which was very close to the Raglan goal, but was kicked away by Scarlett.  As the game was drawing to a close, Manor went in for another goal, but it was another great save by Scarlett.  The final score of that match was 0-0.

Oakthorpe was the final school Raglan Rebels  faced.  Oakthorpe started off with a lot of possession, but the Rebels defence continued to hold strong.   Unfortunately with only three minutes to go Oakthorpe managed to break through the Raglan defence and opened the scoring.   Before long it was 2-0 as the Oakthorpe players continued to pass the ball brilliantly. The game finished 2-0 to Oakthorpe.

Despite some excellent performances, the Rebels didn’t make it through the group stage.
