Rebels Knocked out of the cup!
On Friday 20th January 2017, the Raglan girls football team faced one of their toughest games yet: it was the first round of the FA cup. Although they were facing a very strong side of Capel Manor, the girls were in no way intimidated, and focused on themselves and the game ahead.
Playing was: Theldola (GK), Chloe (captain), Scarlett.R, Ava, Grace, Scarlett.G, Amara, Georgia and Jessica.
Despite Raglan’s positive attitude, Capel Manor created more chances in the first half, and Theldola was the busiest of the two keepers, making some fine saves. Good defensive play from Raglan, kept Capel Manor at bay until just before the end of the first Half, when Capel Manor took the lead with an unstoppable shot.
This was a well deserved lead as the only chance of note for Raglan in the first half was a great shot from Ava, which forced a good save from Capel Manor’s keeper.
Half Time: 0 – 1 to Capel Manor. Come on Raglan!
After an encouraging pep talk from Mrs Andrews at half time, The Rebels were hoping to make a strong comeback. Capel Manor started the second half strongly, but a mix of good goalkeeping and defending kept the score at 0 – 1. The Rebels had chances to equalise, with shots from Ava and Amara, but Capel Manor doubled their lead midway through the second half. Raglan Rebels battled to get back into the game and had yet more chances, but Amara’s shot was saved, and Georgia’s went wide.
It was a good battling performance from Raglan, but the final score was 0 – 2 to Capel Manor. Even though Raglan are now out of the cup, they can now concentrate on the league, and are itching to do well after their defeat on Friday.
