After missing out by the narrowest of margins in Autumn 1 and 2, Mandela have finally lifted the Raglan Sports Cup.
Despite trailing by 20 points after the first few weeks, Mandela were resurgent in the final weeks in almost every sport. After five weeks of intensive competition it came down to the Y5/6 Tag Rugby to decide who would be crowned Raglan Sports Cup Winners. Both Mandela and Elgar were level on 79 points with Austen and Picasso battling it out for the Wooden Spoon. Unbelievably, Elgar and Mandela won both their opening matches meaning there would be one match to decide the Championship.
Elgar started the strongest and built up a 5-3 lead with only 2 minutes to go, but some excellent play from captain Jessica Williams brought the score back to 5-4. Great pressure from Mandela forced a knock on straight after the restart giving Mandela back possession. At that moment, Mr Flett called "last play" meaning Mandela had one last oppertunity to draw level.....
Isobelle passed to Alex, who sent the ball wide to Connor who charged down the right wing to score the equaliser with the final play of the Championship to make the final score 5-5.
Incredibly, both Elgar and Mandela finished on 86 points. Mandela clinched it though with their goal difference of 18 narrowly beating Elgar's 17.
A fantastic finale to an brilliant half term of competitive sport. Bring on next term!
