Raglan Rattlesnakes make a flying start to season.

Sports Journalist: James

On a brisk Thursday evening the Raglan Rattlesnakes took on the mighty Firs Farm in their first football match of the season. Having lost to Firs Farm last year, the boys were determined to win this time. The boys had their minds set on the goal,  they weren’t going to lose…

Raglan had kick off and with a few quick passes and a great through ball and they were in on goal. Unfortunately James’s shot flew wide of the goal, via a deflection off the defender. Moments later Firs Farm were through our defense, but Jonathan flew back. Fifteen minutes went past and both teams had their chances. Freddie made some fantastic saves, and Raglan had an excellent chance right at the end of half as Zach slithered the ball through to James, but the Firs Farm keeper made an excellent save. With two minutes to go Raphael came to replace David. 0-0 at halftime, with the match evenly poised.

The Second Half started with a bang. Raphael played a quick one two with Bradley.  Before passing the ball out wide to James, who dribbled into the box and passed to Raphael to finish.  1-0 to Raglan! Freddie then made another great save, while Zach and Jonathan were making a superb tackles all over the pitch.  We knew we weren’t conceding any time soon. Halfway through the half Freddie lobbed the ball across the field to Bradley who put through James to tap in a second for Raglan making 2-0. Three minutes left and the boys were under a lot of pressure as Firs Farm created lots of chance but couldn’t find the net.  Just before the final whistle Raphael weaved in and out of two defenders before scoring his second goal and securing a 3-0 win for the Raglan Rattlesnakes.

Later on, we caught up with the two players of the match, Alfie and Freddie, we asked:

What did you think of the game?

Alfie:

I think we played great and took our chances.

Freddie:

We all did our best and I’m so happy to have got the win.
