Our Site Manager Steve Ashford is retiring at the end of term after 28 years service to Raglan. I’d like to thank Steve on behalf of the school community past and present for his long service and commitment to the school. Often the unseen side of school life, the site team keep the building up and running, which is an essential part of our operation as a school. I am sure you will join me in wishing Steve well for the future.
Sam Ojokor our Head of Music will be leaving us at the end of the term to take on a new role with the Ark Academies Schools. Sam will be supporting Music across all the Ark schools, which is a new exciting role for her. Sam leaves the school with a strong legacy of success with Music and I’d like to thank her for her hard work and commitment over the last ten years. I am sure you will join me in wishing her well in her new role. We will be saying thank you to Sam at The Big Sing, which will be her final Raglan performance later this term.
We remain committed to a strong Music provision at Raglan and I am delighted that Katherine Hart will be our new Head of Music when she returns from maternity leave later in the Summer Term. Although there will be a small reduction in the number of days, we have started the recruitment process for a new Music Teacher to work with Katherine from September. In the meantime, we will not be able to have an extensive programme of Music in the Summer Term, although lessons will continue in Years 3 and 5.
There are collections for Steve and Sam, so if you would like to make a donation, then please send any contributions in a labelled envelope to the school office.
With a further outbreak of Scarlet Fever in Year 1 (3 pupils), we are encouraging the children to take greater care with their personal hygiene including washing hands and using tissues.
We would be grateful if parents could donate a box of tissues for the class.
During this outbreak, we have been advised to turn off the water fountains in the Infants. Please send a water bottle with your child each day.
Friday is Pyjama Day! Children are invited to come to school in their pyjamas and bring a small cuddly toy. Please make sure your child has warm clothing underneath their pyjamas. Trainers or shoes must be worn.
Just a reminder about our book fair that starts on Thursday 7th March (World Book Day) and will run after school every day until Wednesday 13th March in the Infant Dining Hall. Doors will open at 3.15pm.
Children will be receiving a £1 World Book Day voucher tomorrow. This can be used as part payment towards a book at the Book Fair. Alternatively, bookshops and supermarkets have special books for £1 that can be purchased with the voucher.
Books at the fair can be paid for with cash or by telephone. Please bring your credit/debit card if you wish to pay by phone.
Red Nose Day - Friday 15th March
Red Nose Day is fast approaching! This year the children can come to school wearing their own clothes including something red and bring a contribution of £1 for Comic Relief.
If your child is musical, you may wish to consider Ashmole Academy who have selected places for musical ability. For entry in September 2020 under the Musical Aptitude criteria, parents need to apply to the school by Friday 17th May 2019.
The first part of the tests will take place in June 2019. Further details and the application form can be found on the school website or alternatively contact the School Office for more information. If you would like to discuss this further, please contact Mrs Ojokor.
