Nursery & Field
Work has been completed on the new nursery building and Infinite Playgrounds have now started work on the outdoor area and our field project. You can read more about the exciting field project in the RSA newsletter. Please be aware that there will be works taking place over the next two weeks. Our new nursery will open on Monday 19th February.
Spring Half Term
School is closed from Monday 12th February to Friday 16th February. Children return to school on Monday 19th February at usual time.
This week at Raglan we have been holding Science Week for all the pupils. We began with exciting assemblies from Professor Bubbleworks and Mad Science to start the week off with a bang! There have been workshops for Year 1 and 2 and several of the KS2 classes have had Educational Visits this half term with a Science focus. We have been focussing on developing scientific enquiry skills such as observation, classification, recording and presenting data and drawing conclusions. We want children to engage with Science, be inspired and to understand the significance of science in the world around them; with this in mind we have also launched a Science Competition that children can carry out at home over the half term. Details of the competition will be shared with you all next week. We hope you will be inspired too!
Meet the Teacher
We will be holding our next two evenings on Wednesday 7th February and Thursday 8th February. To book please click here. Alternatively you can call in to the office between 8.30-9am to use the Chromebooks to book. Assistance will be available.
We want to update you on Andy as so many of you helped raise money for his operation. Two weeks ago he had his operation and he is now working hard at his rehabilitation. He is missing all his class, friends and teachers & looks forward to seeing everyone soon.
Over the course of the week the School Lunch Menu is balanced by a nutritionist to ensure it meets the national expectations. Similarly children who have a packed lunch should aim to have a balanced menu across the week. For further advice on keeping packed lunches healthy, visit the Healthier Lunchbox website, which is part of the Change 4 Life campaign. We have noticed in our rubbish bins (yes we do look!) some elements of packed lunches are being thrown away. To keep an eye on this we will be reminding pupils that only messy items (yoghurts etc) will be allowed to be put in our bins. This means you can see what your child has eaten when they return home.
We have a range of visits each year where there is a clear link to the curriculum. We chose trips and workshops that will enhance the curriculum. Unfortunately this comes at a cost beyond the limits of the school budget. We do rely on voluntary contributions from parents in order for these trips to take place. Unfortunately some activities may not go ahead if insufficient monies are collected. We have recently had a Year 1 trip and a Year 2 workshop where we have received insufficient funds. If you have not paid a contribution for either of these, we would be very grateful if you could.
Year 4 - Lee Valley Trip
We are struggling to get enough money for this trip to go ahead, we would really appreciate if you haven’t already paid your voluntary contribution that you do so asap. We also do not have enough helpers for this Friday’s visit, if you are able to help and have had attended our safeguarding training in the last 3 years please let the teacher know. Thank you in advance for your understanding.
After School Clubs
After School clubs are now up and running please pay for your child’s club online via Parentpay, or ask the office for a barcode letter. Clubs need to be paid for by Friday 26th January. If your child no longer wants to attend a club please let the office know asap. We have a waiting list for most clubs. Parents/care must not stay on the school premises whilst waiting for the clubs to finish.
Invoices for the Wrap Club will be sent out shorty. Please pay online via Parentpay or ask the office for a barcode letter. If you have any queries please contact firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have already received a booking confirmation letter confirming payment details, please pay as soon as possible. A reminder that children must be collected promptly by 6.00pm any late collections have to be arranged beforehand and must be no later than 6.15pm. To contact wrap club during wrap hours please call 07841 455439.
We are a uniform-wearing school. Please ensure children come to school wearing appropriate school shoes, not trainers or boots. Children should also not be wearing nail varnish, please ensure it is taken off before coming to school. Thank you for your continued support.
February Half Term Holiday Camp
Leslieess will be running a holiday camp during the February half term. Leaflets will be sent home with the children today but for more information please visit www.leslieessltd.co.uk or telephone 07960 086 406.
Lunchtime Maths club
In the upcoming weeks, we will be starting and running a lunchtime Maths club which will be run by the children and supervised by the adults. For this, we are kindly asking if any of the following games could be donated to the school: Cluedo and Cluedo Jr, Yahtzee, Backgammon, Connect 4, Rummikub, Frustration, Monopoly, Monopoly Empire, Draughts or Chess and Mastermind.
Thanks to everyone that came along to the ceilidh on Saturday night and danced so enthusiastically! We hope you had fun.
We are really excited to see work begin on the school field and are pleased to let you know that funds from the past several years of fundraising have been used for Phase 1 of the project.
The latest newsletter was sent home yesterday in book bags, please read to find out what else is coming up.
Co-Op Local Community Fund
We have been selected for the Co-op Local Community Fund this year! We applied for funds to help build an outdoor classroom. It runs until the end of October 2018. How it works - Every time members shop at the Co-op, 1% of what they spend on selected own-brand products and services goes to the Co-op Local Community Fund. They will also give us and the other causes in our community an equal share of the money they raise from sales of carrier bags. Our cause is linked to TWO stores, one in Bush Hill Park and the other is on Lancaster Road and also the funeral care services. If you already have a Co-op membership card, please go to the following website and register Raglan Schools Association as your chosen charity. https://membership.coop.co.uk/causes/14008/ If you don't have a card - you can become a member easily by requesting a card at the shop and paying £1. Then you would follow the process above to link to the RSA. This is a fantastic opportunity so please help us raise as much as we can.

If your child needs a pair of astroturf, moulded or studded boots, they can grab a pair for free in the Yr5/6 playground every Friday afternoon. Thank you so much to everyone that has donated a pair already. If you have any boots that no longer fit your children, we would be very grateful for any donations.
