2017/18 has been quite a year for PE and Sport at Raglan Schools.   Back in September, we added Mr Hemmings to our PE team. He has has settled in brilliantly, making a positive impact within our curricular PE lessons,  extracurricular provision and “Active Playtimes.” We have introduced our take on the Daily Mile initiative with “Run to Tokyo.’ Our Year 5/6 pupils enjoyed the wonderful facilities at the Lee Valley Athletics Centre for their Sports Day and we have seen more pupils participating in extracurricular sport than ever before.

The Raglan Sports Cup has continued to grow in size and quality with 197 Key Stage 2 pupils competing every week for their house.   Our school teams have been reaping the benefits of this as we are celebrating our most successful year of inter-school sport. We’ve had 185 children from Years 1-6 represent the school this year, with Raglan winning 11 trophies.   Our most notable achievements include the Robins’ (Netball) double, the Rattlesnakes’ (Football) treble and the Rhinos’ (Tag Rugby) remarkable Enfield Grand Slam of 5 trophies and a 7th place finish at the London Youth Games. Over the year we have attended or hosted 79 inter-school sporting events (that’s one every 2.4 school days!), often entering more than one team, and in mid June we took 24 boys and 20 girls back to Cardiff for our second Cardiff Sports Tour.

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Mrs Andrews, Mrs Kuttin, Mr Hemmings and Mr Bonner for all their hard work.  They regularly go above and beyond to create the incredible opportunities we have at Raglan. I’d like to thank Jan, Paula, Sally, Helen, Fiona and Marion from the Enfield PE Team who organise countless competitions and opportunities throughout the year.  Thank you to all our families that support our children to reach their sporting potential and finally a huge thank you to all our incredibly talented children that work so hard in their PE Lessons and after school clubs come rain or shine.

For those children in Year 6, we wish you the very best at your new schools.   Please continue participating in sport inside and outside of school. if your new schools don’t offer the sports you want, keep pestering them until they do!   We always enjoy seeing our former pupils come back so please don’t be strangers, you know where we are.

I firmly believe we have something quite unique at Raglan Schools, where academic, musical and sporting ability are nurtured and prioritised in equal measure.  Please see below some of the highlights of our year in the Raglan Sports Video 2017/18.
