Music at Raglan

The Music department started the year off with the Chamber Choir making it through to the finals of the Barnardos National Choral Competition. We were one of only two state schools in the finals and it was held at the prestigious Royal Festival Hall. The competition was a memorable experience for all involved and a fantastic opportunity to showcase a different type of choral singing which was very much appreciated by the audience. Later on in the year the Chamber Choir went on to win the the Mayor’s Choral award for the third consecutive time.

Our Brass Band has also gone from strength to strength with their first public performance at the Music For Youth Festival in Islington receiving favourable feedback from the judges.

Our Junior choir has also been very busy this year performing in two ‘Gift of Music’ concerts helping to raise over £2,000 money for the Charity ‘Nightingale Cancer Support’.

We have also had some notable individual achievements: several children achieving their Grade 1 Brass certificate including two with ‘distinction’ and two children in the  finals of the Enfield Music Service Piano Competition, one of which achieving ‘2nd place’ in the Grade 2 & above category.

The Music department has formed a partnership with the Royal College of Music acting as a host school for their Education programmes. As a result we welcomed RCM students to lead workshops with our Year 2 and Year 5 children including an impressive percussion concert. To end our busy year children in Year 4 and 5 were treated to steel band and samba workshops for our well-being week.
