As an LPC Law student, I am eager to become a primary school governor because I want to contribute meaningfully to the development and success of young children at the earliest and most important stage of their education. Primary education lays the foundation for lifelong learning, and I believe strong governance plays a vital role in creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
My legal training has equipped me with key skills such as critical thinking, attention to detail, and an understanding of governance, compliance, and safeguarding skills which are highly relevant to the responsibilities of a school governor. I am particularly interested in ensuring that school policies are fair, effective, and promote the best interests of every child.
I also see this role as an opportunity to give back to the community and apply my knowledge in a practical setting. At the same time, it will allow me to develop my own professional skills in leadership, teamwork, and strategic decision making.
Ultimately, I want to support the school in delivering high quality education and in helping every child reach their full potential, regardless of background. Being a governor is a responsibility I would take seriously, and I’m committed to making a positive contribution.
Hello, my name is Lia and my son is currently in Year 1. I am putting myself forward for the role of parent governor because I care about our school community and want to make sure that parents’ voices are represented in decisions that affect us all.
Over the past 18 years, I have worked in the education sector, starting as a secondary school teacher followed by a variety of roles spanning education research, teacher development, and education policy. This breadth of experience gives me a thorough and up-to-date perspective on the challenges and opportunities facing schools today, which I am keen to bring to the role.
I also have experience in school governance, having previously served as both a governor and chair of governors at an all-through school. I believe this experience will enable me to make a meaningful contribution from the outset, working with the governing body to support the school.
If you feel my skills and experience could support Raglan’s ongoing success and help ensure the best for all our children, I would appreciate your vote. Thank you for considering me.
My name is Vassiliki Dogkaki, best known as Kaia’s mum from 1ZS. I’m excited about the opportunity to get more involved as a Parent Governor and support our Raglan community.
My professional experience of 20 years in education, mental health services and health and social care, includes roles in counselling and supporting children with special educational needs in International Baccalaureate and state schools. These experiences shaped my dedication to inclusive, child-focused education; they gave me a profound understanding of how important it is to support the development of an educational setting where children’s mental health, emotional wellbeing, and safety are paramount and equal to learning.
If selected, I aim to bring a supportive and fair voice to the role, helping to shape the school’s strategic direction with clarity and purpose. I believe in working together, listening carefully, and supporting decisions that include everyone and are based on what’s best for our children.
As a parent, I feel that education is the foundation for a meaningful life, now and later. I’d be proud to offer my experience, time and energy to support the school’s mission and enhance our children’s quality of life by advocating for a consistently higher standard of education.
I've found Raglan to be a friendly and close-knit community which my daughter has quickly settled into. Seeing her shine over the course of a short period of time makes me proud to be a part of this community and grateful for the hard work of the teachers and the senior leadership team. I feel that I can also contribute to the continued success of the school as I have previous experience of being an independent governor of a primary school in Walthamstow. I was involved in numerous discussions regarding finance, HR, projects and curriculum issues and have a good idea of what the role entails. I enjoyed the process and believe that I made a positive contribution. I'm also a solicitor and have extensive experience holding others to account and considering strategic issues on a daily basis. My job requires me to work with others and focus on achieving the best possible outcome within the means and resources available.
The Ofsted inspections that judged both schools outstanding across all criteria demonstrates that this is an ambitious and inspirational school and a fantastic place for children. I hope to maintain these high standards and help every student achieve their potential.
My name is Mark McGovern, and I’m a proud parent of three school-aged children, two of whom currently attend Raglan Primary. I’m passionate about fairness, integrity, and community, and I care deeply about the role schools play in shaping children’s futures.
I’ve worked with children and families for over 20 years, with a strong focus on child protection. I’ve led a quality assurance service in a neighbouring borough, helping to strengthen safeguarding and improve services for children. I now support the development of children’s services in financially challenging times, always keeping children’s wellbeing at the heart of every decision.
Outside of work, I’m a keen advocate for sport and personal development. I’ve worked with a local boxing club to help children and young people build resilience and confidence through sport.
Raglan has been a wonderful support to my family, and I’d welcome the opportunity to give something back. As a parent governor, I’d bring professional insight, lived experience, and a commitment to transparency and accountability. I want to help the school continue to thrive and ensure our children have the best possible start in life.
Raglan has always been a big part of my life - I was a pupil here, and my mum worked at the school for 25 years. With my eldest daughter now starting her journey at Raglan, life has come full circle, and I’m keen to give something back by supporting the school’s contnued growth and success.
Professionally, I’m a Chartered Accountant and finance leader, currently working with high-growth technology companies. With a background in audit and advisory, I’ve spent my career helping organisatons plan, manage resources effectvely, and make confident decisions - skills that I believe translate well to school governance.
I have held Treasurer positons with local organisatons for the past decade, helping to bring clarity and efficiency to how things run. I’ve also had exposure to school finances through previous consulting projects with The Haberdashers Foundation and Stowe School.
Above all, I understand the value of a well-rounded education - one that helps children to think independently, express themselves confidently, and embrace the challenges of a rapidly changing world. I hope to contribute both my professional experience and my personal commitment to help the school continue providing a supportive and forward-thinking environment for all its pupils.
I am a senior leader at a successful all-through (Primary, Secondary and Sixth Form) academy in North London, with over 13 years of experience in education. I have a strong passion for teaching and learning, and my key responsibility is ensuring that we provide the best quality teaching informed by research and evidence to drive excellent pupil progress.
My experience has given me a clear understanding of the challenges schools face today — from the lasting impact of COVID-19 on pupils’ learning and wellbeing to ongoing funding pressures that require schools to be creative with limited resources.
As a parent of three children at Raglan, I have been hugely impressed by the wide range of opportunities available to them and by the commitment of the staff to ensuring every child succeeds.
I wish to become a parent governor to support the excellent work of the leadership team and to contribute my professional experience and insight as both an educator and a parent. I am passionate about helping Raglan continue to provide the best possible education and opportunities for all pupils.
As a parent with three children connected to the school, one currently in Year 3, another in nursery, and my eldest, now 20, who also attended, I have a strong, long-standing relationship with the school and a genuine commitment to its continued success.
In my professional role as an Attendance and Welfare Officer, I work closely with children, families, and staff to promote regular attendance, safeguard wellbeing, and remove barriers to learning. This has provided me with valuable experience in supporting pupils both pastorally and academically, and has strengthened my understanding of how attendance, wellbeing, and achievement are closely linked.
I believe that education thrives when schools, families, and communities work in partnership. As a Parent Governor, I would bring empathy, professional insight, and a collaborative approach to help shape the school’s strategic priorities and maintain high standards for all pupils. I am particularly passionate about promoting inclusion, emotional wellbeing, and pupil engagement.
Having witnessed the positive impact this school has had on my own children, I am eager to give back by contributing to its future development and ensuring it continues to provide a nurturing and inspiring environment where every child can flourish.
I am putting myself forward for the role of Parent Governor because I am keen to support our school and ensure that funding is used effectively for the benefit of all our children.
My professional background is in Business Administration, Financial Analysis, and other areas of Finance operations. This experience has given me a strong understanding of financial management and resource allocation, which I believe could help strengthen the school’s budget planning and oversight.
Although I work full time in the private sector, it would be an honour to contribute as much as possible to our community. I understand that the governing body plays an important role in supporting and holding the Headteacher and leadership team accountable, and I believe my professional skills are well suited to this responsibility.
While I have not previously been involved in a governance role, I am eager to learn and contribute. My daughter has recently begun her academic journey at the school, and it would be a privilege to help make that journey — and that of her peers — the best it can be. Thank you for your time and consideration.
As a father of two daughters, including one in Year 4 and another at university, along with a career in education, I am keen to use this experience to support Raglan school in building on its strong foundations and guiding it through future challenges.
I have spent 16 years in education firstly as a teacher then as a Director of Education at a London independent school. In this role, I gained first-hand experience of:
Supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities
Managing school financial accountability and pressures
Raising and maintaining education standards
Teacher retention and wellbeing challenges
Achieving an “Outstanding” Ofsted rating
In my current role I work for Renaissance (organisation behind Accelerated Reader) and speak to school leaders daily. This keeps me connected to the latest challenges, ideas and innovations in education.
I’m motivated to join the governing body to apply my experience in a way that adds value, supports continuous improvement and provides a balanced parent / carer voice.
I would bring my knowledge, together with my experience as a parent, to support Raglan’s leadership in maintaining high standards, ensuring sound financial decisions and keeping every child’s wellbeing and learning at the heart of each decision.
