GB Sprinter CJ Ujah visits Raglan

School completes Run to Tokyo

The Raglan Schools in Enfield are delighted to announce that they have completed the Run to Tokyo, an initiative to get pupils running every day! Taking inspiration from the Daily Mile, pupils have the opportunity to run every day and over the course of the last eight months, the pupils have jointly completed the 9,533km needed to reach Tokyo, hosts of the next Olympic Games in 2020.

Today the school welcomed GB athlete and Enfield born CJ Ujah, to celebrate the achievement in a special assembly. The sprinter took time out from training to answer questions from Year 6 sports journalists and to present certificates to the classes for their achievement. Despite the weather, CJ joined in a lap around the field, where a trail has been installed following fundraising by the school community.

Headteacher Martin Kelsey said “The children have really enjoyed the Run to Tokyo and it has been great to celebrate their achievement with one of Great Britain’s finest athletes.”

The school has set the next challenge of running 16,147km or 41,000 laps of the field for the return to London via Hawaii, San Francisco and New York!
