Health Advice

We continue to have a small number of confirmed cases of Scarlet Fever and Chickenpox. I am sure many of you are concerned about hearing the weekend news regarding Strep A infections. We are in touch with Public Health regarding the cases of Scarlet Fever at Raglan and continue to follow their advice. Please do look out for the symptoms of Scarlet Fever. I am resending the public information but the main advice is to seek medical advice on 111 or with your GP if you are concerned.

I have also attached the information for Chickenpox which is also around at the moment. Please remember that your child should stay off school until the last spot has crusted over.

If your child is ill, please keep us updated on your child’s condition using the online form.

Christmas Lunch

Just a reminder that this is on Friday. You can book online via ParentPay or on the day. Children can also wear a festive/winter jumper on this day. Please note this is not a charity day.

Christmas Assembly

Every year we have a Christmas Assembly, which brings together readings from the Christmas story and mixed with songs from the different performances this term. At the end the children and staff have an option to join in with a prayer. Children from each class contribute to the readings alongside representatives from the staff, governors and the RSA.

This year our Christmas Assembly will be held on Tuesday 13th December in St Stephen’s Church, on the corner of Park Avenue and Village Road. As we are unable to fit everyone in, there will be two assemblies, similar to what we do each Friday. The children will be walking to the church with their class. Please note that Nursery pupils will not be attending.

If you wish to withdraw your child from this event, please let us know in writing (letter or email) or by completing this form, otherwise we will assume that they will be taking part in the visit. An alternative assembly will be held in school for those not attending the church. Absence will not be authorised on this day for withdrawing from the visit.

Unfortunately due to restrictions with space we are unable to fully open this up to parents and carers. If you have any queries, please contact the appropriate Assistant Headteacher for your phase.

Year 1 Sing & Sign

Year 1 started our festive celebrations with a great Sing & Sign concert this afternoon. Singing three songs with signs and reciting a couple of poems they performed really well in a busy hall full of parents and carers. This was our first Christmas performance since 2019!

More later this week for Year 1, Reception and our two music concerts. See Events for tickets

FRIDAY 2ND December

Staffing Changes

There are some changes ahead for next term and parents in various classes will have received an email today with more details.

We will be saying goodbye to two members of staff, Miss S Wheale (Leading Teacher, reception) and Miss Minoli (Class Teacher, Nursery) who will both be moving on to new schools and roles. I'd like to thank them both for their hard work and support over a number of years.

We will welcome Miss L White who will be the new lead teacher in Reception and taking class R4. Changes in Nursery will come from existing staff and a new role for Mrs Montague who becomes the Leading Teacher for the Nursery.

Other changes include in R3 where Mrs Alpak will be starting her maternity leave in January and the class will be led by a job share of Miss Yiacoumi and a new temporary teacher to Raglan Mrs Madejczyk. Mrs Salih (Class Teacher 4SS) will also be taking maternity leave a little later in February but we will be phasing in the new temporary teacher from January who is Miss Kastanias.

Finally, Mrs Houlihan who is out acting SENCo will be starting her maternity leave in January. We will welcome a new permanent SENCo to Raglan. Mrs Plume is an experienced SENCo currently at another local school.

AntI-Bullying Week

This week we focussed on anti-bullying. The children in EYFS and KS1 watched a special online show. Years 3, 4 and 5 enjoyed a live interactive theatre production and each Year 6 class had a live workshop working with a visitor.

Classes also had Now Press Play sessions in which they listen and role play through bluetooth headphones. There have been many lessons and stories that have continued the focus across the week and work has featured around the Anti-Bullying Alliance’s 2022 theme ‘Reach Out’. We now await the judging of our poster competition by our school council and the winner will be reproduced and used around our school buildings.

GYMTASTIC!

Raglan's gymnastics have been in action all week at the Enfield Gymnastics Festival. 30 pupils from KS1 and KS2 represented the schools in 6 different events. They all did amazing well with a special mentiuon for our Y3/4 gymnasts who finished 3rd and our Y5/6 Advanced Team who finished 1st to retain the trophy for the second year in a row.

A huge thank you to Mrs Tungett for all her hard work ensuring Raglan were the only school to enter every category of the Enfield Gymnastics Festival.

Sports TRIALS

A reminder than trials begin next week in Key Stage 2. This is the first steps in sorting clubs for Spring.

We will be sending out the clubs for Spring before the end of term.

Wednesday 30th November

Absence Update

We have high rates of absence at the moment due to many illnesses going around which is typical for this time of year, but seems to be more significant in number. We have already reported cases of Chickenpox and Scarlet Fever. There have been two confirmed cases of Scarlet Fever in the Infants and two in the Juniors. However, we do know that some parents are struggling to get appointments and some GP surgeries do not want to see their children in person due to infection risks. I understand that Scarlet Fever can only be confirmed with a throat swab and that in some cases antibiotics are being prescribed without this confirmation. This means that there are probably more cases than confirmed. Some parents have enquired about Strep Throat, but we have no confirmed cases reported. We are in touch with public health in Enfield who will provide any advice. Children have been reminded about good hygiene and to wash their hands and parents are asked not to return children to school until they are well enough and in line with the guidance for communicable illnesses.

The online form is the BEST way to report an absence .

Report absence each day on the online form

Could I also remind parents to report absence each day (unless it is a known set period of absence) using our online form. The link for the form is on the front page of our website and also at the bottom of each parent/carer update email.

We have to account for EVERY absence every day and with 930 pupils this is a mammoth task every morning especially when absence is high.

If you have reported an illness on day 1 and your child remains unwell on day 2 then use the update button to send us a message that they remain unwell.

Date Reminders

For all our events and performances please see the EVENTS PAGE.

Coming up this week:

  • Friday 2nd December - Dress Down Day in return for an item for the RSA luxury hampers

Year 1 visit the national gallery

Last week Year 1 attended the National Gallery. It was a fabulous trip. The children got to see famous paintings by some very well known artists including Water Lillies by Monet, Sunflowers by Van Gough and Surprise by Rosseau.

In the afternoon they had a story in front of a painting. The staff at the Gallery were very impressed with how engaged and interested the children were with the artwork and with their knowledge and imaginative ideas. Members of the public stopped us to comment on our children’s fantastic behaviour around the Gallery. The day ended with a walk along Trafalgar Square and a spot of sightseeing on the way home.

The Year 1 team are very proud of all of the children, they were all amazing ambassadors of Raglan School.

We are delighted to announce that the Year 6 Sports Tour to Cardiff will take place in June 2023. Prior to the pandemic, we had established a great residential experience along with coaching from professional clubs in football, rugby and cricket. Clubs

After-school clubs finish next Friday 2nd December. Arrangements for new trials are in place for the remaining two weeks and we hope to have the Spring term club information out to you before we break.

Raglan Wrap Club

You will have received an email but just a reminder that bookings for Spring open on Monday 28th November at 6pm. You will be aware that the club is hugely popular, so do ensure you book for the term ahead. Magic Booking allows you to set up a payment plan with either a direct debit or through vouchers or tax-free childcare. YOU MUST either pay in full or set up a plan otherwise the outstanding balance shows as a debt and will restrict your future bookings. Please note that the system will not allow you to book if you have a debt on your account.

Holiday Activities

Earlier this week I shared the Winter Holiday activities run by Enfield. Please note these are only free to those on Free School Meals. This is a change to half term when it was open to all. Apologies for that error.

Parents will have received a letter regarding an ongoing outbreak of chickenpox and scarlet fever. Cases are mostly concentrated in the Infants with one case of chickenpox in the Juniors. Please do read and follow the guidance so that we can try and minimise the outbreak. If you are unsure please do consult the school. There is a lot of other illness and absence at the moment across both schools with attendance dropping to around 87% today.

World Cup Draw

As the World Cup has now kicked off we did the Raglan draw for our World Cup Game. The draw was done during half time of the England game on Monday. If your child does have a country, why don't you take opportunity to find out a little more about the country. Ideas include

  • Research the country

  • Create a Fact File

  • Replicate the flag

  • Create a book, google site or slide show

Friday 18th November

All the Fun of the Fair

Today we supported Children in Need with a dress-down day, a visit from the one and only Pudsey Bear and a Children's Fair organised and run by the children themselves. The children decided on their own class stalls and made their props and signs as well as running their stalls for others to try.

Pudsey Bear made a surprise visit to Raglan to support the children in their fundraising efforts.

We are still counting the money but looking at the donations it seems to be an amazing response.

Thursday 17th November

Children in Need

Tomorrow is Children in Need and we will be dressing down for the day in return for a donation. The children via school council have also organised a Children In Need Fair where pupils will be running their own stalls for others to enjoy. Everything is 20p so bringing in change would be ideal!

World Cup Game

The RSA World Cup Game will close on Monday so there is just a couple more days to take part before we do the big draw on Monday. This is also the day of England's first game against Iran which kicks off 1pm. We will be making arrangements for children to watch this if they wish in KS1 & KS2. See below for a reminder of the world cup game.

Christmas

We have had some queries about why there is no Christmas Fair this year. Unfortunately such an event requires a large number of volunteer hours, which we have struggled to fill on past experience. The RSA are still very active this term with the Christmas Grotto which is running for 9 days, the secret present room and the hamper draw. We are still needing to fill some slots for helping at the Grotto so please contact rsa@raglanschools.org if you can offer any support. Along with 13 performances in the last two weeks it will be a busy end of term.

Christmas Trees

We usually have 4 real Christmas trees in our halls. If anybody has any contacts or knows of some good deals or if anyone would like to donate or sponsor our communal Christmas trees, please get in touch.

Tickets

Tickets for the performances are now available, please do reserve your seats so we can see what we have left. We will be contacting some parents who have overbooked. To clarify when we say limited to 2 tickets that is across all performances. Some parents have booked two for each but unfortunately we will not have enough for everyone.

World Cup Fundraiser

With the Football World Cup approaching there is an opportunity for children to play a fun sweepstake game in class which also raises money for school. Children can play with £1 and pick a number on their class poster. Once all the numbers are full in each class we will hold a special assembly to draw countries for each number and so children will have a country to follow during the World Cup. The RSA are providing prizes for 1st and 2nd place depending on who wins the cup!

Friday 11th November

Year 6 who were visiting RAF Hendon today marked the silence on their visit.

Remembrance

Today we marked Armistice Day at the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month with a two-minute silence. The children and staff all made a poppy to create our poppy installation on the field made up of 1000 poppies. Parents and carers can view the installation on Friday after school. The weather will determine how long it will last!

Earlier in the week assemblies focussed on different ways that people around the world mark Remembrance Day including in the UK, Ghana and Barbados.

Sporting Success

Plenty of success to cheer this week with our sports.

  • The Rhinos were crowned Enfield Tag Rugby Tournament Winners last Friday.

  • The Rattlesnakes were runners up at the Enfield Boys Football Tournament. We entered 4 teams comprising of 35 boys on Wednesday and Thursday.

  • The Boccia and New Age KurlingTeams (Inclusive Sports) started their league matches this week.

  • The Sports Journalists have been busy on the Raglan Sports News Website so do check that out!

Thursday 10th November

Performances

As we get close to the festive period we have set out our dates and performances. These can be found on the Events Page including all links for booking tickets which will go live tomorrow Friday 11th November.

ALL our events are ticket only events due to the capacity in each hall. Most performances are limited to two tickets across all performances. Visit the Events page - click here

Children in Need

We will be joining in with the national Children in Need appeal next Friday 18th November. Children can dress down for the day and make a donation to children in need. We will also be holding the CiN Fayres which are run by the children themselves. These are lots of stalls and games for children to explore. Everything costs 20p so the best thing is for children to bring in 20ps where possible.

Curriculum Maps

These are being updated for Autumn 2 so you can see what is happening in the curriculum for your year groups. The maps can be found on the Curriculum Page - click here

Future dates

Thinking ahead you will be aware no doubt of the additional bank holiday announced for the King's Coronation which will be on Monday 8th May 2023. This was the first day of SATS for year 6 and we will await what is going to happen with the test that was planned for that date.

The Year 5/6 Sports Day held at Lee Valley Athletic Stadium is on Tuesday 11th July 2023.

Amazing Art

Last term Year 1, 4 and 6 completed their artwork and Mrs Ashall has created some slide shows to show you want they created. You can see other slides shows from all year groups and art clubs on the Art & Design site.

You have until Tuesday 15th November to order online where you can choose either free delivery to the school or home delivery for a small fee. Photos will be delivered to school around 30th November.

Chickenpox

The half-term break has helped with the outbreak of chickenpox but there remain some active cases. Due to the outbreak, advice has been sent to all parents by email before the break. You can see the symptoms here on the NHS Website. We do ask that parents follow the advice carefully. Children should remain away from school until the last spot has crusted over which usually takes around 5 days but can be longer.

RSA Update

This half term is a busy one for the RSA with preparations underway for the Quiz Night, Winter Wonderland Grotto, Secret Present Room, Hamper Draw and more. Here are some updates and reminders. As ever thank you for your support.

Amigo parent guide.pdf

Heard of Amigo?

No, we hadn't either, but keep an eye out for it on your child's device. It is an 18+ chat app which pushes random connections and is therefore totally unsuitable for children. You can check out the guide here. We have also uploaded other guides to our Online Safety Page.

Friday 21st October

It's been a busy half term but the new year has started well and it was lovely to see so many parents and carers at the Meet the Teacher evenings this week. We missed some parents but we will be in touch after half term to catch up with you as it is important that we keep in touch about how well your child is doing.

Thank you to everyone who donated to the Harvest Collection for the local food bank. It was collected this week and was well received and one of the largest donations from schools.

We will now recharge our batteries ready for the next half-term. Don't forget there are free activities across Enfield including food/lunches over the half term. (see below)

Please remember that the children will return on Tuesday 1st November.

Key Stage 2 Results

Official data was shared with schools this week and I am pleased to say that all our results for attainment and progress were significantly above the national average and placed Raglan in the top 20% of schools. This was across all three subjects of Reading, Writing and Maths. Due to the pandemic the results will not be published on official sites this year as schools were affected differently. However you can see a summary on our website here

Walking, Cycling and Wheeling MapS

The local authority has produced a couple of maps for our schools that encourage walking, cycling and wheeling. to school. We know that most children live within a 5 or 10 minute walk of the school. You can click (top right) to open the pdf. Those who live further away and need to come by car should do the Park and Stride, which means parking further away and walking the last step of the journey.

ESSP1166 Raglan Junior Walking, Cycling & Wheeling maps.pdf

Parking

It's very noticeable that we get an increase in issues when the weather is poor. Please remember to respect our neighbours and keep all our children safe by parking responsibly in the local area. This means

  • no parking on corners

  • no parking across the pavement

  • no stopping or parking on the yellow zig zags or the zebra crossing

  • no blocking the driveways of local residents (even for a few minutes)

Should anyone wish to report illegal parking in the future NSL can be called direct on 020 3856 0036 (line available 24 hours for enforcement daily between 8am and 9pm). Alternatively, the Parking team here at the Council can be emailed at parking@enfield.gov.uk or called on 020 8379 6406 between 9am and midday Monday to Friday.

Bookings seem to have worked well with just a few technical issues and errors to resolve. If you have yet to book please do so today as bookings will close in advance of the day.

Chickenpox

We have heard of more cases of chickenpox over the weekend so we do have an outbreak, so keep an eye on your children if they have yet to have chickenpox. We will be sending advice from the local health team to all parents as required when there is an outbreak. You can see the symptoms here on the NHS Website . Children should remain away from school until the last spot has crusted over (usually 5 days).

Thank You!

Thank you for all the harvest donations, we managed to fill much of the school stage with the food and other items. These will be collected by the local foodbank this week.

Nine parents have opted for their children to have the alternative injection and we are contacting those parents to ask them to attend with their child at 08:30. Parents are not required to attend for the nasal spray.

Clubs

Now the clubs have started to settle, please ensure that you have made arrangements to collect your child on time at the published finish time. These details can be found in the booklet. Whilst we can be sympathetic with one-off lateness, we may withdraw the club place for regular issues. You may also incur a charge for Raglan Wrap Club who will be looking after your child whilst they are waiting.

GET READY FOR Meet the Teacher

Bookings will open on Wednesday 12th October at 6pm. This gives you a couple of days to activate your Magic Booking account as explained in Thursday's update and a recent email to parents.

Sickness Bug

Please be aware that there is a sickness bug going around in the Infant school at the moment. Please look out for the signs and symptoms and avoid sending your child to school for 48 hours from the last episode so we can reduce the spread. It is likely with siblings this may spread to the juniors so do encourage regular hand washing.

Photographs

Individual photographs are scheduled for next Thursday 13th (Infants) and Friday 14th (Juniors). You don't need to do anything for this, we are just making you aware so pupils come prepared for those. If you would like sibling or family photos then the photographer will be available from 8am on both days. This is a drop in so expect it to be busy and to wait. Thursday will be in the Infant Hall (enter via the hall doors in the Millenium Garden) and Friday will be in the Junior Hall (enter via Raglan Road office)

Relationships education

As you may be aware, Relationships Education, along with Health Education is now part of the curriculum. During our weekly Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE) lessons this term, pupils in Years 1, 3 and 6 will be learning about families and friendships. This is not new, as the school was an early adopter of the policy and curriculum in 2019.

When developing our policy with parents, we decided that we would share the overview, key objectives, resources and the vocabulary that will be used and you can find the information on our website. You can also find the policy and details of the consultation should you wish to check back. The page of the website can be found here

Please note that there is no right to withdraw pupils from Relationships Education, as it became compulsory in September 2020. This is not Sex Education which is undertaken by Years 5 & 6 in the Summer Term and parents will be given the opportunity to withdraw their child.

Meet the Teacher

Our evenings are planned for Tuesday 18th and Wednesday 19th October 15:30-18:30 each day. Ten minute appointments are available to meet with the class teacher and discuss how your child has settled this year.

Bookings will open next week and we are moving this to Magic Booking which has a module for booking appointments. We already use Magic Booking for Raglan Wrap Club and Nursery so some parents will already have an account. "Meet the Teacher" will appear on your dashboard once it goes live next week.

If you are new to Magic Booking, we have already set up your account ready to activate. Follow these steps to set your password:

  1. Open this link for our Magic Booking site - https://theraglanschools.magicbooking.co.uk/Identity/Account/Login

  2. Click Forgotten Password

  3. Enter the email address that you use for school emails and submit (it will not accept any other email)

  4. Open your email account and follow the instructions to set a new password

You will then be ready for when booking opens next week.

As this is new for you and for us there may be some teething problems so do bear with us. If you have any issues with your account please get in touch and we will respond as soon as we can.

HARVEST DONATIONS

Thank you for the donations so far. We are collecting for the local foodbank and the collection closes next Friday 14th October. See the news below for the items that have been requested.

PGL WeekEnder

Year 6 returned from PGL on Monday after a long weekend of outdoor activities and challenges. 110 children attended the weekend along with 12 staff. Activities included climbing, archery, raft building, abseiling, challenge course, rifle shooting, Jacob's ladder, zip wire and the infamous giant swing!

A big thank you to the staff team who volunteered their weekend. More photos will be posted soon.

Mini Marathon

Well done to the Raglan children who attended the Mini Marathon as part of the London Marathon weekend. Many parents shared their photos and Mr Flett has put together a short video to celebrate their achievement.

Monday 3rd October

New Website - www.raglanschools.org

Our new website has launched this week with a new look and as it is constructed through google sites it is easier for us to keep up to date. It is the same web address, but it's now free which saves us some money on the commercial site. The organisation is similar to before but with some improvements and some new additions. The curriculum pages are still under construction but will be published in the next few weeks.

Black History Month

This October sees the annual celebration of Black History Month once again here at Raglan. This year's theme is ‘Pioneers in Health and Wellbeing.' With a focus on nursing, medicine and sciences. This month the children will be working hard to research their person of interest and display their work on a timeline ready for you to see during the upcoming "Meet the Teacher" evenings.

If anybody in the school community works in any of these sectors and wishes to send in a short video explaining what you do, we will share these with our children. Please send them to the office. office@raglanschools.org

Nursery & Reception Tours

It's that time of year again when we start our meetings and tours for interested parents/carers who are looking for Nursery and Reception places for September 2023. We have a number of meetings and tours which can be found here on Eventbrite where you can book a place. So spread the word to families and friends. On our new website, they may want to look at the About Us page and Admissions.

Special Menu

Thursday has a special one-off menu to encourage as many Infant pupils to take a meal on this day. This is the day there is a headcount to decide how much funding the school receives to provide the meals for the Infant school next April.

You make your choice on your ParentPay account but the meal is free for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2.

Friday 30th September

PGL Weekend

110 pupils and 12 staff departed for PGL in Suffolk today as the Year 6 residential returns in its usual slot of late September. The 3 nights stay includes 10 outdoor activities including abseiling, climbing, raft building and problem solving and several more fun and challenging sessions. Residential visits are such a key milestone in a child's life as they start to become more independent and take responsibility and for many it is their first time away from their family. Parents can follow the weekend's activities by following us on Twitter @RaglanSchools

Harvest Collection

It’s Harvest Time! We are collecting for the North Enfield Foodbank. More than ever, communities both locally and nationally are needing to use the services of a foodbank. This harvest time, Raglan is supporting the North Enfield Foodbank by collecting non-perishable foods for people in our local areas. If you are able, please buy an extra item or more when you are shopping and give it to your child to bring to school for the collection.

  • Non-perishable items are needed such as:

  • Tins of vegetables, soup, beans, fruit, meat, fish

  • Packets of biscuits, crackers, pasta, rice, tea

  • Jars of pasta sauce, jam, coffee

  • Bottles/cartons of long-life milk, long-life fruit juice, squash

  • Toiletries and baby care items eg soap, shower gel, toothpaste, toilet rolls, baby wipes, nappies etc.

We will be collecting up to Friday 14th October. Please donate generously if you can.

Nut-Free School

This is just a reminder that we are a nut-free school so please do not send anything into school containing nuts. This includes in packed lunches, snacks and birthday treats. For example a mixed box of sweets often includes a nut variety so is not suitable and some children do get upset when we have to stop them being given out. Please find alternatives.

Fruit

If you missed it in the videos posted last week our policy on snacks has changed to fruit only, which can include vegetables and dried fruit. Infants continue to be part of the government scheme so can have a fruit snack provided. Juniors can bring in their own. Our policy change is in line with our Health Schools Status.

Rail Strikes

Some school visits planned for next week may be affected by the train strikes. We will update you with further information as we receive it.

Punctuality

Being on time is a key life skill to teach children so please do try to be at school on time. It has been noticeable in the last week that the number of parents arriving late with their children has been high. Do aim for 08:40 when the doors open and the children can complete their start of day activity. Lateness is monitored and we will be proactive in sending letters to parents if the number of late marks passes three.

Thursday 22nd September

Clubs

As usual we have received a large number of requests for clubs and even with 45 clubs running there is not enough capacity to meet all the wishes of the children. Clubs are allocated in a way that means we try and find at least one club for all who want one and then we fill up the remaining spaces using first choices and then balancing the number of clubs. 630 pupils have requested a club and will have a letter on Friday showing the club(s) that they have been offered. Please do let us know if you have changed your mind as we can offer the place to someone else.

As set out previously fees are reduced to £15 this term with support from the RSA fundraising. Many of the clubs are free where we have funding from other sources. If there is a fee to pay it will appear in your ParentPay account over the next week or so.

Parent Information

Years 1-6 have parent information videos uploaded below, these give you an overview of school priorities for the year, some reminders and also the teams outline the curriculum coming up. We have also created some curriculum maps which outline what the children are doing in each subject this half term. These are also posted in the Year Group Google Sites (see our website>Year Groups) These are in response to the parent survey in Summer when some parents said they wanted more information about what their child was learning.

Sweatshirts

We have a few remaining sweatshirts that have been paid for but not collected, please do call into the office to collect. We will then be putting all our remaining stock into an e-shop on Magic Booking where parents can buy and pay online. Our aim over the year is to extend our online shop to other uniform items and bring down the cost of uniform for our school community.

Mandela win the Cross-Country Championship

Our annual Cross country championship took place today with Key Stage 2 pupils taking part in large numbers. Teams of 4 from each house each ran the course in a relay event and overall Mandella came out top by just one point from Picasso. A big thanks to the PE Team for organising and a well done to all the children who took part or supporting as the behaviour was commendable.

The first part is the same on each video which is the general introduction from Mr Kelsey including reminders and policy changes for the year. Clubs & Activities Autumn 2022

We are pleased to launch the programme for this term with 45 clubs each week. As usual parents/carers/pupils can make their requests online and we will then allocate the clubs with the aim of most pupils getting their first choice and finding a club for each child who wants one. The allocations are not done on a first come first served basis so please take time to discuss clubs with your child.

Trials in KS2 are now over-running due to the bank holiday so you may need to submit a request before you know the outcome of the trial.

This term the RSA are subsidising the fees which are reduced to £15 per term, a small gesture to try to ensure that children continue to attend clubs during this challenging period for many families.

Clubs and Activities Autumn 2022 (public)

Clubs Booklet

Please read the clubs booklet and when you have decided you can make your selection(s) on the link below.

A few reminders

  • use your child's name not the adult!

Tuesday 13th September

Bank Holiday

Monday 19th September is now a Bank Holiday for the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. We will therefore be closed on this day. Sport trials (Y5/6 Gymnastics and Y5/6 Boys' Netball) planned for this day will now be on Tuesday 20th September. We are looking at the refund situation with those who have booked and paid for Wrap Club, this is likely to be a credit applied to the account.

Clubs

The clubs information will be coming out very soon, aiming for a start date of Monday 26th September. Trials are taking place this week and next Tuesday with changes made to account for the Bank Holiday on Monday. You can see the revised schedule here

London Schools Mini-Marathon

Children at Raglan have an opportunity to take part in the London Mini-Marathon. Unfortunately, it clashes with the Year 6 residential visit so this is aimed at Year 2-5. Mr Flett has written to parents and carers with the details which can be found by clicking here

Contact Us

  • The school office is open 08:30 to 16:30 each day. There is also a secure drop box in the entrance to save you queuing.

  • The main email to use is office@raglanschools.org which we ask you to use for main communications. They will pass on to the relevant person.

  • We will shortly have a new website built on the google site platform which will be easier for us to keep up to date.

  • Remember if you are doing a google search we are The Raglan Schools (www.raglanschools.org) not to be confused with Raglan Primary in Bromley.

Friday 9th September

QEII Portrait Competition (public)

HM the Queen

We know that the children and all of us will react in different ways to the news that broke yesterday of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. She has been a constant figure in all of our lives with 70 years of service to the country and beyond.

Many of the children have come to school today wanting to talk to someone and share how they are feeling, or to ask questions about what has happened and what will happen now and in the future. For others, it may have reminded them of a loss or sadness in their own lives. For some, it will have very little impact.

I want to reassure you that we are aware of the range of emotions that there will be and that we will do all that we can to listen to the children with patience and care and to answer their questions with honesty and as much thought and sensitivity as possible.

Today we gave thanks for the life in service that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth gave during assembly and there were also no doubt some age-appropriate discussions in classes about what has happened.

I await news of the impact that the national state of mourning and funeral will have on schools and will update you as soon as I am aware.

Earlier this year we celebrated the Platinum Jubilee and I leave you with a reminder of some amazing portraits we received.

Finally words from HM The Queen herself on her coronation

"I declare before you all that my whole life, whether it be long or short, shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great family of nations to which we all belong. I have in sincerity pledged myself to your service, as so many of you are pledged to mine. Throughout all my life and with all my heart I shall strive to be worthy of your trust."

Monday 5th September

Classroom Drop In

As we start the new school year, parents can drop into classrooms at the end of the day on Tuesday 6th and Wednesday 7th September. This is an informal event so there is no planned meeting, just an opportunity to see where the children are based and meet the staff. Next week we will be release welcome videos with more information on the year ahead.

Sweatshirts

If you ordered a school sweatshirt via the bulk order we placed before the summer holidays then you can collect these as follows

  • For Reception, we will have these available at the Stay and Play - Tuesday 6th September.

  • For Nursery, we will have these available at the Stay and Play on Wednesday 7th September

  • All parents can also collect from the main office from 08:30-09:00 each day this week.

Please make your payment on ParentPay before you collect your sweatshirt. If you are new to Raglan you will be getting your ParentPay log-on details at your 1:1 meeting. If you have ordered more than one then please add the correct amount in the payment box (2 = £13.80, 3 = £20.70 etc)

If you have forgotten what you have ordered, please check your email as you would have received a copy of your order from the google form.

Alternatively, if you have paid and want us to send the sweatshirt home with your child then please email the office. The deadline for collection will be Friday 16th September after this point we will be releasing the remaining sweatshirts for sale.

Raglan Wrap Club

Please remember this is not a drop-in service as you need to book in advance via Magic Booking. We have a new Wrap Manager who has started today so please send any queries to wrap@raglanschools.org

Today we supported Children in Need with a dress down day, a visit from the one and only Pudsey Bear and a Children's Fair organised and run by the children themselves. The children decided on their own class stalls and made their props and signs as well as running the stall for others to try.

We are still counting the money but looking at the donations it seems to be an amazing response.
